General Summary

The Athletics Department at Indiana Tech serves as an integral part of the university and is an important participant in its mission. The commitment of the athletics department is to enhance the student experience and to provide quality programs that are competitive, fun, and meaningful in an atmosphere that promotes success within the spirit of fair play, sportsmanship, and integrity. The Co-Director of Sports Information supports the communications and marketing efforts of the athletics department and serves as a game-day administrator for a variety of sports programs.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

• Serve as a communications contact for multiple sports, with tasks including, but not limited to: writing press releases, game notes, feature stories, updating/maintaining the official athletics website; compiling statistics at athletic events; coordinating interviews and other requests with coaches and student-athletes; pitching story idea to local and national media outlets; traveling with teams as appropriate
• Manage the press box and/or scorers table at home events, including overseeing the game day staff, performing assorted game day duties as needed Report scores and results to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (and other affiliated conferences) and the NAIA
• Nominate student-athletes for various awards
• Represent the Institution in a positive manner through various social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube
• Maintain and update accurate historical records
• Assist in the development, execution, and relationship building of corporate sponsorships in coordination with the department of athletics.
• Hire, train, and supervise student work staff
• Complete other duties as assigned by the athletic director.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, sports management, or related field required
• Strong organization skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong computer skills required, experience with Adobe Cloud apps or related software preferred
• Familiarity with statistical software (Stat Crew, Dak Stats, Presto Stats, etc.) required
• Ability to manage multiple tasks with attention to detail

One year of experience in the university of professional sports communications field is required

Working Conditions

In combination with office work hours (M-F, 8:30-5), work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor sports venues and offices at various times throughout the academic year. Regular evening and weekend work hours will be necessary. Physical work is required.
