General Summary: Coordinates the planning and execution of high-quality events and facility rentals for the WMU Athletic Department. Plans, coordinates, staffs, schedules, budgets, supervises and directs all operational activities and personnel engaged in managing events throughout the athletic department. Additional responsibilities include facility rental planning and oversight, event parking coordination, event staffing coordination, credential planning and implementation, access control, and communication/coordination with internal and external units. Events may be athletic and/or social in nature.
Manages and provides comprehensive day-to-day and gameday management of assigned athletics events including but not limited to pre-event planning and coordination of department personnel and outside vendors and services, setup and breakdown of facilities, access control, compliance with NCAA, MAC/NCHC, and ADA policies and procedures, coordination of officials and visiting teams, crowd control management, game management, establishing relationships and procedures with law enforcement, EMS and other emergency personnel, and implement venue policy and procedures.
Ensures excellent customer service. Organizes, directs, coordinates, hires, trains, evaluates and schedules workers for athletics events. Updates and maintains event profiles, manuals and/or information packets.
Collaborates and takes an active role in all athletic department operations. Trains staff on service, safety and evacuation procedures. Evaluates and implements ideas and best practices for safety and security of all athletic facilities and events. Works diligently to promote a positive relationship with on-campus and off-campus groups. A high level of professionalism is expected in all communications and work product produced. Attention to detail is critical.
Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the WMU intercollegiate athletics program, including adherence to all department policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the university, Mid-American & National Collegiate Hockey Conferences, the NCAA, and the state of Michigan.
- Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution.
- Three years' relevant experience.
- Supervisory or lead experience.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage time, space, equipment and functions.
