Abington Friends School seeks a full-time Director of Marketing and Communications to serve on the School’s Advancement team and oversee strategic responsibility for marketing and communication initiatives for one of the premier independent schools in the Delaware Valley. The Director of Marketing and Communications reports to the Assistant Head of School for Institutional Advancement and supervises the Assistant Director of Communications and a part-time Communications Associate to plan and execute the school’s communications and marketing strategies. As a member of the School’s Administrative Council, the Director also works closely with the Head of School and other School leaders.
The Director of Marketing and Communications will oversee initiatives to build institutional reputation and drive enrollment and philanthropic growth. The successful candidate will direct planning, budgeting, design and evaluation for all paid, owned and earned advertising, devise content-driven marketing and lead cultivation programs, design and manage marketing communication for print, web and social channels, oversee brand visual identity and develop institutional core messaging for key program areas.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
strategizing and creating content for all school communication channels, including editorial, advertising, public relations, social media, video and photography;
leading and maintaining the school’s website and social media sites in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Communications;
assisting with in-house graphic design;
overseeing the writing and tone of email communication to the school’s various constituencies;
organizing and hiring external vendors such as design and print agencies;
analyzing a marketing and advertising budget to create the best possible return on investment for enrollment and fundraising effectiveness;
managing the AFS brand, style guide and awareness efforts.
In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Communications, oversee:
writing and editing news stories and promotional copy for print and web, including but not limited to, emails, newsletters, magazine articles, event promotion, video scripts, short marketing copy, headlines, letters, announcements, press releases and emergency notifications;
photographing and reporting on school events;
writing and directing publication of the school’s magazine;
implementing crisis communication plans alongside the Assistant Head of School and Head of School;
developing relationships with local media outlets to handle inquiries, new initiatives, secure coverage for school events of note, and pitch content ideas.
The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree, preferably in communication or marketing and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at a school or non-profit organization. Candidates should possess a growth mindset regarding technology, with the ability to learn new tools and work in a variety of technical systems. Fluency with Adobe Creative Suite; Mailchimp or other email campaign software; CMS (WordPress preferred); Facebook Ad Manager and Google Analytics is required. The ideal candidate is comfortable working on varying social media platforms, has strong project management and organizational skills, excellent interpersonal skills, proven design skills, advertising copy writing skills, and publications experience. Occasional evening and weekend hours required.
