The Assistant Manager, MBB Operations reports directly to the Manager, MBB Operations. This position works in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged. The Assistant Manager, MBB Operations is responsible for assisting with various team, management, and administrative duties of the Men's Basketball program as assigned by the Manager, MBB Operations.
The Assistant Manager, MBB Operations must support the athletics department's vision of providing an excellent student-athlete experience surrounding all aspects of student-athlete support services. The staff member will work collaboratively and unified with all support staff disciplines encompassing Health, Wellness, and Sports Performance and Student Development; including, but not limited to, Team Physicians, Athletic Training, Strength and Conditioning, Equipment Operations, Sports Nutrition, Sports Psychology, Student Services, and Student-Athlete Development Staff.
Administrative Support 60% Build strong relationships with both internal and external constituents to maintain a positive public image for the Department and University. Liaison to SSA (Student Services for Athletes) and academic counseling to ensure the academic progress of basketball student-athletes. Maintain effective relationships with student-athletes, peers, administrators, faculty, media representatives, and the general public. Work to integrate sports into the whole spectrum of academic life to complement the University and its mission in the community. Work closely with our Sport Administrator on all aspects of our basketball program. Oversee the Student Manager Program: includes recruiting and maintaining students, creating a schedule based on the team's practice/game schedule, assigning responsibilities and tasks. Participate in activities related to on campus recruiting of prospective student-athletes, as well as off campus recruiting as requested by the Head Coach. Assist with travel needs of the coaching staff for off-campus recruiting efforts. Work with graphics design staff to create graphics for recruits and recruiting presentations. Oversee and process expenses, reimbursements, and invoices to support coaches and teams. Research and execute team building activities. Plan/schedule events in conjunction with External relations and Development (alumni game, alumni weekend, invitations to practice/games). Plan, coordinate, and implement community service events specific to the basketball program. Assist with and promote our basketball camps and clinics. Know and understand NCAA rules related to the on-going performance of duties within an NCAA Division I program and commitment to follow those rules.
Team Travel 40% Establish a detailed itinerary outlining travel plans for away games. Coordinate all aspects of team travel to include airline and hotel reservations, meals, and buses. Set logistics for team travel to and from facilities. Includes serving as on-site travel coordinator for off-campus activities. Provide oversight of logistics for practices and games, i.e., locations, times, days. Coordinate ticket needs for games.
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree and 2 years of relevant experience. Previous Experience coaching or playing at the collegiate level or working in an athletic department setting. Academic advising experience desirable. Strong organizational, communication, and public relations skills. Ability to take direction and operate autonomously with limited direct supervision. Ability to effectively manage time and schedules and resolve problems. Demonstrates an understanding and consideration of the differing needs and concerns of individuals with varying identities, cultures, and backgrounds. Special Requirements: This position will require a flexible work schedule based on events including evenings, weekends and holiday. Travel will be required. Extensive night and weekend work required during certain periods.
