The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) is looking for a dynamic leader to serve as the conference’s first Commissioner. The YSCC is comprised of 10 full-time members and one affiliate member located in Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Vermont and upstate New York. The conference offers 11 championship sports programs. The YSCC is the northeast regional league of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) which offers national championship opportunities and national awards platforms. The Commissioner will be tasked with the day-to-day operations of the conference. This position will work remotely, however will be asked to attend four in-person meetings a year (typically located in the geographic center of the conference-NH region) as well as the YSCC sponsored championships (dependent on location and dates).
The Commissioner is the primary administrator of the Conference and is responsible for the day-to-day conference operations and serves as a non-voting member at all conference meetings throughout each academic year. This position will work collaboratively with membership Athletic Directors, YSCC Executive Board, and be a liaison to member institutions President (or designee) on operational and strategic initiatives. Essential Responsibilities: Conference Meetings and Correspondence •Prepare and disseminate the agendas for all meetings of the general membership and Executive Board and disseminate minutes as submitted by the Conference Secretary and Director of Communications. •Organize and facilitate all meetings of standing conference committees, sport specific committees, and conference sanctioned sub-committees. Conference Marketing and Outreach •Identify and implement conference strategic initiatives in consultation with the YSCC Executive Board. Serve as Conference spokesperson and liaison during new member recruitment efforts by the conference. •Identify and solicit external funding sources in support of conference programs and championships. Compensation for percentage share of revenue between the conference and commissioner will be negotiated by the YSCC Executive Board and approved by the membership. Rules Interpretations •Serve as the YSCC Infractions Committee Chair and provide oversight over conference disputes.
Successful candidates will have experience within Intercollegiate athletics or related field with an understanding of the unique nature of small college athletics. This position is a remote position however the ability to be within the geographic footprint of the conference is preferred.
