The position of Director of Conference Operations for the Southern Conference (SoCon) is responsible for managing a variety of important operational tasks that involve meeting and event planning, office manager responsibilities, daily business operation assistance and administrative support for the Commissioner. The position reports to the Commissioner.
Conference meeting and event planning responsibilities include develop, plan, and coordinate arrangements for the annual fall and spring conference meetings, annual president’s and athletic director’s retreats, academic undergraduate research forum and entrepreneurship challenge events with host schools, assist with the coordination of football and basketball media days, select championships, and in-person coaches’ meetings. Operational responsibilities include monitoring office supplies and equipment, daily shipping and receiving, liaison for IT support, maintain SoCon event calendar, and answer in-coming phone calls. Business office responsibilities include processing checks and managing post-graduate scholarship budget. Administrative support for Commissioner includes maintaining meetings and appointments, coordinating travel, and assistance with special projects as assigned.
This position has regular contact with all Southern Conference staff members, select league committees, athletics administrators, coaches, student-athletes, and representatives of organizations and companies with which the conference has business relationships. Desired qualifications include excellent organizational skills, proficiency with MS Office, ability to communicate well with the public, familiarity with office operations in a business setting and understanding of intercollegiate athletics.
