The Athletic Director is responsible for overall administration and management of the University’s intercollegiate athletics program and represents the program at the conference and national levels.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Directs and evaluates the activities of coaches and staff members involved in the intercollegiate athletic program so that the program supports the educational objectives of the University and complies with all standards of the regulatory organizations. Works to recruit and retain a superior coaching staff and departmental personnel in the athletic department to promote and support the academic success and general well-being of student-athletes.
Provides leadership that reflects an adherence and commitment of high standards in academics, and business matters. Keeps abreast of all current rules and regulations of the various athletic organizations and keeps coaches informed of rules interpreted for all sports programs. Establishes policies and procedures to ensure compliance with National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Southland Conference, and Texas A&M University-Commerce rules and regulations as well as federal and state laws, including Title IX.
Serves as the primary spokesperson for the intercollegiate athletic program. Conducts public relations with faculty, staff, students, alumni, sports media and the general public to encourage campus spirit and community-wide involvement.
Direct responsibility for enhancing all Lion Champions Fund annual giving, along with all athletics capital and major gift cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship for identified prospects – both corporate and individual. Facilitates athletic fundraising and athletic alumni relations with Philanthropy and Engagement, Marketing and Communications, and the Office of Alumni Relations.
Advises the President and senior administration on all aspects of the intercollegiate athletic program on a regular basis. Works collaboratively with other senior university officials in support of the athletic program. Informs the President, Athletic Council, and Faculty Athletic Representative of all progress and problems in the intercollegiate athletics program and seeks their advice and counsel on all matters under their jurisdiction.
Informs coaches of their responsibility in selecting and retaining student athletes and for submitting accurate and valid reports on the eligibility and participation of all athletes. Approves student athletic scholarship lists.
Submits recommendations and supporting documentation to the President as necessary to make decisions regarding goals, capital expansion, staffing, budget appropriations, and other aspects of intercollegiate athletics.
Grants authority and responsibility to head coaches for the administration of their specific programs, and intervenes only when the practices and procedures are in conflict with the accepted policies of the Department, University, Southland Conference and/or NCAA.
Approves playing schedules and contracts for all sports as well as travel arrangements for all teams.
Verifies appropriate insurance coverage for all participants and coaches and monitors the filing of appropriate insurance claims.
Organizes, supervises, and assigns responsibilities for ticket sales.
Prepares and submits appropriate reports as required by the University, Southland Conference, and the NCAA regarding participation, eligibility, and financial expenditures for each of the intercollegiate sports.
Supervises facility and equipment personnel for preparation and maintenance of facilities and acquisition of equipment. Coordinates use of facilities with University groups and requested use by outside groups.
Directs the preparation of all budget requests and approves all expenditures of funds from the budget accounts assigned to the units within the Department. Informs coaches of the status of their respective budget accounts. Stays abreast of current fiscal regulations regarding expenditures of funds.
Oversight of all athletics branding, enhanced marketing and sales efforts, and progressive community engagement initiatives. Responsible for best management practices and efficiencies in athletics apparel vendor contract relations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience: Eight (8) years of related experience. Five years of intercollegiate athletic administrative experience Demonstrated knowledge of athletic administration of intercollegiate athletic programs. Demonstrated commitment to all men’s and women’s sports and proven leadership to the overall athletic program
Knowledge / Skills: Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others. Demonstrated ability to motivate personnel and establish and maintain effective working relationships. Excellent interpersonal skills. Demonstrates integrity, drive, vision and comprehensive communication skills. Strong management and fiscal skills
Ability to: Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others. Ability to present information clearly and concisely

Other Requirements: Work beyond normal office hours and/or work on weekends

Advanced degree from an accredited university, Bilingual (Spanish)
