The Director of Communications & Marketing for UCI's Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing leads the strategic direction and implementation of all marketing and communications activities for the school, including public and media relations, executive communications, student recruitment, alumni and donor communications via web, print, video and social media distribution. This position requires broad expert experience and technical knowledge in the following areas: strategic-level marketing and communications planning; media relations; relationship management; community engagement; issuing communications; writing; publication and graphic design; photography; video conceptualization and production; social media development and deployment; communications policy development and implementation; event and budgetary planning. This position will be key to increasing visibility and awareness of the School on campus, in the surrounding community, and nationally to impact prestige, recognition, and donor and philanthropic gifts. Position reports directly to the dean of the nursing school.

$87,200.00 - $163,600.00 (annual)
Required:
8-10 Years of relevant experience.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of technical applications to direct professional technical staff, or personally perform technical work, including design concepts, various media, and applications. Advanced skills to create, develop, and implement long and short term strategic communication plans. Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills.
Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues, technical aspects and requirements of various venues, and most appropriate and effective applications. Advanced skills to advise and consult management on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information.
Experience in conceptualizing, designing, writing and distributing original press releases, feature stories and media advisories as well as print and electronic communication pieces.
Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
Preferred:
Master's degree in related area.
Evidence of increasingly responsible experience in developing and managing all aspects of effective marketing and public relations plans, preferably for programs in higher education.
Thorough knowledge of location protocols and channels for communication internally and externally.
Advanced knowledge of the organization, including its mission, vision, goals, policies, and infrastructure; strong knowledge of current affairs and issues in higher education and / or health sciences.
