This is a full-time professional position within C.A.T.S. Academics, a comprehensive academic support service unit for intercollegiate student-athletes. The Academic Counselor reports to the Senior Associate Director and is charged with managing aspects of academic support for student-athletes on assigned teams and monitoring their academic progress, NCAA eligibility requirements and progress toward graduation. This position requires consistent and open communication as well as an understanding of NCAA and Pac-12 Conference guidelines and regulations. May be required to work evenings and/or weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities: Provide academic and personal counseling to student-athletes on assigned teams. Monitor the academic progress of student-athletes on assigned teams; provide course advisement, academic support and career and personal guidance; educate student-athletes on rules of eligibility and personal responsibility. Serve as an academic mentor to new student-athletes; schedule regular appointments and assist with developing daily and weekly academic objectives. Promote positive working relationships with college advisors and faculty throughout campus. Utilize standard grade reports to communicate student-athlete progress to appropriate constituents. Monitor student-athletes’ NCAA academic eligibility through the use of University student systems and established internal degree-tracking forms. Administer the guidelines of the unit’s objective-based study hall, tutorial services and grade report tracking system. Assist student-athletes with scheduling of courses, ensuring that course schedules are balanced and fit the time and season constraints of the student-athletes. Communicate with coaches of assigned teams through scheduled academic meetings; regularly and promptly share detailed information regarding the ongoing academic progress of assigned student-athletes. Assist with the recruiting process during prospective student-athletes’ visits to campus. Regularly communicate the progress, outcomes, and direction of work to the Associate Director and make recommendations concerning improvement of programs and services. Support department and divisional student success efforts through participation in a variety of department activities and committee work. Perform related duties as assigned or required to meet department, division and university goals and objectives.
