Stonehill College, an NCAA Division I institution and member of the Northeast Conference (NEC), is seeking a dynamic senior leader to support the mental, physical, and academic well-being of 550 student-athletes competing in 23 varsity sports; assist in the College’s transition to full NCAA Division I status; and serve an integral role in shaping the future of Stonehill Athletics. If the successful candidate is a woman, they will also serve the institution as the designated Senior Woman Administrator(SWA).
The Deputy Director of Athletics will provide oversight and direction for key student-athlete resources, including academic success support, NCAA compliance, and physical and mental health services. In addition, as a senior leader of the department, the Deputy Director will have responsibility for developing and implementing key department initiatives.
The Deputy Director will serve as an administrator for several sport programs, providing mentorship for coaching staffs and strategizing on program budgets, goal-setting, scheduling, and engagement.
The Deputy Director will partner with numerous department leaders campus-wide, with extensive collaboration with academic affairs, admissions, student financial assistance, and academic services. The Deputy Director of Athletics will also devote particular attention to the inclusive nature of the Stonehill community, fostering diversity and equity among the staff and student body. The position will also represent the department on a variety of campus-wide and athletic conference committees.
The Deputy Director of Athletics will directly supervise professional staff working within the areas of compliance, athletic training, and strength and conditioning. Additionally, the Deputy Director will have direct responsibility for a variety of core department functions, including academic success programming, student-athlete well-being initiatives, and NCAA and conference reporting activity.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide guidance and oversight for department staff responsible for NCAA and conference compliance
Serve as a critical leader in fostering a campus culture in which differences are embraced and work to advance the College’s mission of diversity and inclusion
Collaborate with college admission and student financial assistance teams to support the successful and compliant recruitment and retention of student-athletes
Support the academic growth and success of student-athletes by providing and connecting student-athletes to department and campus resources
Oversee and support the successful delivery of sports medicine, strength & conditioning and mental health services by professional staff
Serve as a sport administrator for a number of men’s and women’s varsity programs
Assume the responsibilities and opportunities of the Senior Woman Administrator role
Serve in a leadership capacity on department and campus initiatives furthering our work in the areas of academic success, Title IX, and diversity, equity and inclusion
Represent the college during work with the NCAA, Northeast Conference and other key constituent groups
Strategize on behalf of the Department of Athletics on key internal & external matters
Qualifications:
Possess a passion for the growth and development of student-athletes
Deep understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of collegiate athletics
Strong ability to communicate with colleagues and supporters within and outside the department to advance the mission of the department and college
Current knowledge of compliance regulations, trends, and practices within the field
Demonstrated understanding of the College’s Catholic mission and identity and how Catholic traditions and values enhance the student experience
Demonstrated commitment to embracing and advancing diversity and inclusion in all aspects of campus life
Proven commitment to both academic and athletic achievement of student-athletes
Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment, tact, and confidentiality
Availability to travel locally and nationally to fulfill the duties of the position
Must have flexibility for evening and weekend responsibilities
