Summary: Texas A&M University-Kingsville is seeking a graduate assistant to assist in the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Communications Department. The successful applicant will work closely with the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Communications in covering all 15 TAMUK sports. In this role, the successful applicant will be serving as the liaison between the media, student-athletes and coaches.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: website maintenance; writing and dissemination of press releases and feature stories; layout and design of assigned game notes and game day programs using Adobe Creative Suite; assist with day-to-day operations of the sports information office for home events; travel to select events if required; collect and maintain statistical information; update and maintain sports social media accounts; and other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will ensure compliance with NCAA, LSC, TAMUK and TAMUS policies, guidelines, and procedures.
Graduate Assistant Scholarship: Position includes a scholarship to cover tuition and fees (i.e. 18 semester credit hours per calendar year), 10 meals per week, and a $300 per month housing stipend.
Requirements: All requirements for full admission to a Texas A&M University--Kingsville Graduate Program must be met. Must be available to work 20-25 hours per week.
Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, sport management or related field; possess a working knowledge of StatCrew and NCAA Genius statistical software; have strong oral and writing skills in addition to a thorough knowledge of college athletics.
Experience in layout and graphic design using Adobe Creative Suite or a similar program and two years of experience as a sports information/media relations student assistant is preferred.
