The Assistant Director of Sports Performance is responsible for helping direct and develop a high level of sports performance services for UNCW student-athletes participating in 19 Division I athletic programs. This position reports directly to the Director of Sports Performance. This position will have oversight of the development of sport-specific strength training and conditioning programs that are scientifically based and involve periodic/cycled regimens of exercises and drills to optimize strength, power, flexibility, mobility, agility, speed, and/or work capacity designed to enhance sports performance and decrease the incidence of non-contact injuries. They must also demonstrate effective use of technology and data analysis regarding sports performance.
The Assistant Director of Sports Performance will demonstrate & implement safe, effective, and proven exercise techniques at each training session and delivers programs in an organized manner using the field’s best practices. This position will assist the Director of Sports Performance in strategizing and adjusting current strength training programs with the coaching staff and sports medicine staff. This position will collaborate and communicate with individual coaching staffs regarding student-athlete performance and rate of progress. This position will assist in managing their respective team’s training programs and the facility’s management.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Physical Education Minimum of 2 years of experience in the field of collegiate sports performance
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience Knowledge of sports performance exercise technique, periodization, and exercise safety Ability to organize and instruct groups ranging from (2) to (50) student-athletes at one time Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
Ability to adhere to all UNCW, CAA, and NCAA guidelines and provide student-athletes with an exceptional collegiate experience while competing for championships Demonstrated effective communication skills to establish relationships and conduct work at a high level with a wide range of constituents (coaches, athletes, administrators, etc.)
Required Certifications or Licensures NSCA – C.S.C.S. (Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist) and/or CSCCa – SCCC (Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified CPR/First Aid Certification
