The University of North Dakota Department of Athletics is currently recruiting for a Student-Athlete Support Services (SASS) Coordinator. This position provides comprehensive assistance to the Athletics Department in the area of academic services including providing leadership education, and serving as an academic advisor which includes, but is not limited to, assisting with class selection, monitoring graduation requirements/tracking on graduation, assisting students experiencing academic difficulties and setting educational goals, assisting with study tables, and arranging tutoring.
This position is responsible for monitoring progress toward degree certification for NCAA eligibility (PTDs) as well as initial eligibility for PSA’s for sports assigned. This position also assists with continuing eligibility of current student-athletes including monitoring, recording and reviewing academic progress, and communicating with staff and student-athletes, particularly for assigned teams. This position co-supervises the Schubert Athletics Academic Center, including coordinating all hiring, training and scheduling of study center monitors. This position will serve as a secondary liaison to various campus constituents (orientation), as needed, and will serve as a secondary administrative director/liaison for the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and Student Athlete Inclusion and Diversity (SAID), as needed, providing leadership education and development opportunities. This position will also assist with ULIFE Course, Life Skills, Wellness and Health/Safety education and development activities for the student-athletes as needed. In addition, this position is responsible for all academically-related mass communication from SASS to student-athletes, coaches, staff. Manage all SASS related social media platforms.
This position will also assist with various internal operations tasks on a daily basis as assigned by the Sr. Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and/or the Director of Athletics. Must have a commitment to compliance with all NCAA rules and Regulations. Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes.
Duties & Responsibilities
Responsible for meeting with and developing individual academic plans (assisting with class selection, monitoring graduation requirements/transcripts/degrees and setting educational goals etc. as appropriate) for newly admitted UND student-athletes in assigned sports during the academic year and summer terms.
Assists with development of individual academic plans for “target group” student-athletes (assisting with class selection, monitoring graduation requirements and setting educational goals etc. as appropriate) for assigned sports.
Assist with coordination of summer school including selection of appropriate courses for student-athletes, development of overall academic plan and tracking on graduation requirements.
Responsible for monitoring academic progress, reviewing of academic records, assisting students experiencing academic difficulties (learning, psychological or physical), and assisting with the overall orientation of all student-athletes, if assigned, in conjunction with campus partners in student affairs.
Review academic records to determine admissions status, appropriate course load, and graduation requirements for assigned student-athletes.
Co-supervision over all daily functions of the Schubert Athletics Academic Center.
Hire and supervise study hall monitors, as well as coordinate work schedule.
Takes a lead role in the monitoring and reporting of team missed class time in conjunction with the Assistant AD for SASS and under the supervision of the Sr. Associate AD for Internal Operations.
Draws on knowledge, experience, professional contacts, and skills to capitalize on opportunities and options for UND Athletics to optimize academic services operations.
Creates the quarterly Student-Athlete Support Services Newsletter.
Assists, if needed, in nomination process for Post Graduate scholarships and other NCAA and Conference academic honors for student-athletes.
Assists with coordination of life skills programming for student-athletes and SAAC, providing leadership education and development including health/safety education and support as needed.
Assists with coordination of UNIV 101 – University Life course – including facilitation.
Assists with annual Student-Athlete Handbook Development and Production.
Assists with annual Student-Athlete award nominations.
Assists with recruitment of prospects, coaches, and staff within NCAA guidelines.
Develops mass student-athlete communication for the SASS social media platforms.
Serve on Campus Committees as assigned by the Sr. Associate AD for Internal Operations and represent the interests of UND Athletics.
Provides information and works with campus administrative departments to ensure compliance with NCAA academic eligibility concerns.
Performs other miscellaneous duties assigned by the Assistant AD for SASS and/or Sr. Associate AD for Internal Operations.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree.
One year experience in college level academic advising or coaching.
One year experience in college level student programming.
Valid Driver’s License.
Successful completion of a criminal history records check.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience working at an NCAA Division I, II or III athletics department.
Experience with student-athlete based advising or coaching.
Experience with PeopleSoft or other applicable higher education software systems.
Experience with developing student academic/learning skills.
