With the addition of the $70 million Midco Arena, Augustana Athletics is launching the first collegiate hockey program in South Dakota in 2023 and it will also be the first athletics program to compete at Division I that calls Sioux Falls home. Currently with 21 NCAA Division II sports programs, Augustana Athletics is focused on building champions in the classroom, in competition and in the community, highlighted by three team national championships since 2016. Viking Athletics finished #7 nationally in the Division II Learfield Director’s Cup in 2021-22 and also won the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) All Sports Award.
Director of Communications
Augustana University (SD) is seeking qualified applicants for the Director of Communications position, a 12-month position within our athletic department. The director of communications provides administrative and technical support under the direction and supervision of the Associate AD for Communications. This position is responsible for assisting the Associate AD in all aspects of managing the communications office as well as additional responsibilities as assigned within the athletic department.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Will serve as the primary contact for Augustana’s NCAA Division I hockey program along with other selected sports.
Regularly update the GoAugie.com website.
Coordinate proper staffing for all home athletic events.
Organize and record game statistics at athletic events and provide timely reporting of results to local, conference, regional, and national media outlets.
Ensure all programs have proper headshots and updated roster information on the website. Update all other pages of GoAugie.com website. Create photo galleries.
Respond to statistical and other report requirements for the NSIC, NCAA, opponents, publications, television networks, national wire services, and other print and electronic services.
Promote and nominate on a timely basis student-athletes and coaches for proper recognition at the conference, regional, and national levels.
Maintain all statistical information, historical data, and photo files for assigned athletic programs.
Work with media to solicit event coverage and feature stories for assigned sports.
Schedule and coordinate student athlete and coaches’ interviews for all sports.
Work with many different types of software integral to a comprehensive sports information department.
Develop and maintain quality relationships with coaching staff and other athletic staff
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
1-3 years of experience working in athletic communication
Preferred Qualifications:
Communication experience with a hockey program
Background with digital medial
3-5 years of experience working in college athletics
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
