Carthage College, an NCAA Division III institution and member of the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, is seeking applications for a Senior Associate Director of Athletics. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, the Senior Associate Director of Athletics will provide leadership and direct assistance in the administration of a comprehensive intercollegiate athletics program and will serve as a strategist and senior advisor to the Director. Primary responsibilities include oversight of NCAA Compliance; ensuring College compliance with NCAA and Conference rules, ensuring appropriate management and coordination of facilities and athletics events including post season tournaments. Supervise various sports teams, participate as a member of assigned committees, and represent the department at athletic events
Candidates should exhibit an appreciation for the liberal arts, possess solid oral, written and interpersonal skills, and have a proven track record in administration and/or coaching. They must model and embody a personal values system that promotes and celebrates a collaborative workplace climate that recognizes and rewards diversity, equity, and inclusion. The successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding of Division III athletics and display a passion for supporting student-athletes.
Participate in the planning and implementing of strategies to strengthen the intercollegiate athletics program; recommend to the Director policy and procedural changes to enhance departmental operations.
Provide leadership in support of the recruitment efforts of the College’s intercollegiate athletics program; provide guidance to team coaching staffs to ensure compliance with recruiting rules and regulations.
Ensure that all student-athletes are eligible to participate in intercollegiate athletics programs; work with the National Collegiate Athletic Associate (NCAA) clearinghouse in processing the eligibility requirements of freshmen and transfer students and process and certify the continuing eligibility of current student-athletes; process the noti?cation of change in status and communicate and assist the student-athlete and parents regarding eligibility.
Ensure that the College’s athletics programs are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations governing recruitment, awards and bene?ts, playing and practice seasons, and sports camps and clinics by developing and conducting NCAA rules education for coaches, student-athletes, alumni and sports boosters.
Serve as the NCAA compliance coordinator. Provide relevant compliance information and updates regarding NCAA, and conference rules to Athletics staff and departments such as Admission, Financial Aid and the Registrar’s O?ce to ensure compliance with rules, regulations and policies.
Ensure compliance with intercollegiate athletics program reporting requirements; ?le all NCAA certi?cation forms, squad list forms, drug consent forms, and annual NCAA disclosure study and other related forms as required by NCAA and a?liated conferences.
Assist in maintaining the department policy and procedures manual, a compliance manual, and student-athlete handbook.
Develop, demonstrate, and promote multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse and respectful College community. Provide direct supervision to the professional coaches for assigned sports teams. Recommend various personnel actions including hiring, merit recommendations, promotions, transfers, vacation schedules, and other actions.
Coordinate and participate in evaluation of coaches for speci?ed sports; submit written evaluations to the Director; participate in post-evaluation interviews; meet with coaches to discuss probationary terms and expectations when necessary.
Provide assistance in coordinating position hires and participate in the search and hiring processes.
Serve as a resource to the campus community in matters pertaining to intercollegiate athletics and provide assistance to the Director and Coaches in resolving issues involving the use of facilities, equipment, tournaments and post-season contest set-ups and logistics, and issues involving the welfare of student athletes.
Represent the department at various athletic events, campus and community events; serve on campus and community committees as appropriate.
