This position will serve on the department of athletics senior staff and have oversight of all athletic department external affairs units. The person in this position will work with the director of athletics to create a coordinated strategic approach related to the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship for our donors. The person in this role will have oversight responsibilities of donor relations, communications, marketing, tickets and be a liaison to the department’s MMR and sponsorship partner. The person in this position will be responsible for executing an NIL strategy and serve as the athletic department’s contact for student-athlete NIL. The person will serve as a sport administrator for assigned sports. Major Responsibilities:
The Associate Athletic Director/Deputy Athletic Director for External Affairs is responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting donor prospects for athletic teams and associated athletic programs. This position is responsible for developing meaningful and productive relationships in creating and supporting a portfolio of gift donors and prospects, while also partnering with various departments and constituencies on campus. The incumbent maintains and grows annual fund support as well as capital improvement and endowment support for Athletics and the development, implementation, management, and refinement of programs that engage and encourage participation of alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents, and friends in supporting Valpo Athletics. Reports to the Director of Athletics and with a dotted line to the Assistant Vice President for Development and will set annual goals, establish priorities, determine and implement fundraising strategies for a variety of teams and programs. This position has key responsibilities for all athletic donor relations and stewardship activities. In conjunction with the Director of Athletics, this position will play a lead role in the management and continued stewardship of select/sport-specific donor groups. The incumbent will implement creative ways to engage former Valpo letterwinners to celebrate past achievements and shared traditions. The Associate Athletic Director/Deputy Athletic Director for Revenue Generation will work with the Assistant Athletic Director for Development to meet the development goals for the athletic department. Comprehensively, the Associate Athletic Director/Deputy Athletic Director for Revenue Generation and Assistant Athletic Director for Development are responsible for athletics major gift cultivation, the Valpo Victory Fund program and athletics alumni/friends events to increase donor engagement in coordination with the AVP for External Relations. The Associate Athletic Director/Deputy Athletic Director for Revenue Generation will play a collaborative role with the Director of Athletics and coaches to help determine the departmental needs and, with the Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Initiatives, to prepare strategies for effective solicitations.
Master’s Degree
5 years' direct fundraising or related experience in the solicitation and closing of major gifts. Strong skills creating and sharing content on a variety of social media platforms. Experience monitoring and responding to conversations on social media.
Transferable, related experience such as marketing, admissions, public relations, trust officer or sales may be considered.
Strong interpersonal, organization, management and leadership skills.
Ability to interact effectively with coaches, administration, student athletes and vendors.
