The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina, invites nominations and applications for the Director of Athletics. Top candidates will possess dynamic and mission-driven leadership while establishing the highest standards of excellence in academic and athletic performance. The Athletic Director will be responsible for the mission, vision, strategic planning, and administration of the Athletics department. The Athletic Director will direct and develop the intercollegiate athletic operations, ensuring compliance with NCAA regulations while fostering a championship culture and promoting sportsmanship and community engagement. This position reports directly to the President.
Essential Job Responsibilities: • Develop and maintain championship athletic programs which are competitive in the NCAA Division I FCS and Southern Conference and reflect positively overall on the institution. • Monitor and maintain NCAA compliance requirements, with extensive knowledge of intercollegiate sports and athletics rules and regulations. • Oversee 16 varsity teams, including Men’s football, basketball, baseball, cross country, indoor/outdoor track and field, wrestling, tennis; Women’s soccer, golf, rifle, indoor/outdoor track and field, cross country, and volleyball; and Mixed rifle. • Implement strategic planning processes for program development and retention strategies to assure continuity in programs. • Define departmental expectations and delegate responsibilities, administrative assignments, and activities to the coaching staff and Associate Directors. • Develop collaborative relationships with other campus offices to ensure compliance, quality of service, and institutional integrity. • Recommend annual budget for intercollegiate athletics; manage, track, and reconcile all monies received through departmental activities and all expenses to support such activities according to the approved budget plan. • Develop and strengthen relationships with community leadership and key business stakeholders. • Manage growth of the endowment program related to athletics and coordinate administration of the program in Alumni programs, while working collaboratively with The Brigadier Foundation and The Citadel Foundation to generate financial support for cadet-athletics. • Establish and monitor recruiting initiatives for staff and athletes. • Direct marketing initiatives of the athletic programs and coordinate outreach and recruiting activities with the Admissions Department. • Represent the institution at meetings or conferences in which The Citadel holds membership. • Promote an inclusive environment for student-athletes, coaches and staff. • Promote academic success through collaboration with Student Affairs and the Commandant’s Office.
Minimum Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree with five years of Athletics administration and/or coaching experience at the college level • Progressive experience in fiscal management of Athletics programs • Demonstrated success with development, fund raising, media and recruitment activities, preferably at the collegiate level
Preferred Qualifications: • Master's degree • Experience with NCAA Division I FCS
This position requires frequent travel, weekend and overnight work.

The Citadel Athletics Department has 16 Varsity Sport Teams. The Citadel is affiliated with NCAA Division I athletics and in football the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision. The school's conference affiliation is the Southern Conference, of which they have been a member since 1936.
