Graduate Assistantships Ithaca College – Exercise & Sport Sciences
Position Description: Graduate Student Assistantships: wellness, strength & conditioning, athletic coaching, and teaching assistantships for the 2025-2026 academic year.
General Information: The graduate assistantships are awarded to 1st year students for the Master of Science in Exercise and Sports Science at Ithaca College. To be considered for an assistantship, you must be admitted to the Exercise and Sport Sciences graduate program in the Department of Exercise Science and Athletic Training. Assistantships are available for full-time matriculated graduate students (MS degree only.) Qualifications:
Wellness: experience in wellness/fitness industry and coursework in personal training or similar, certifications preferred
Strength & Conditioning: Certification or for the CSCS by the NSCA, SCCC by the CSCCa, &/or USAW.
Coaching: participation in intercollegiate sports team, experience coaching preferred.
Teaching Assistantship; undergraduate coursework in at least two of the following courses: biomechanics, exercise physiology, foundations of exercise science, strength & conditioning, sport psychology.
Responsibilities: Graduate student assistants Wellness Director/Clinic Manager, Head Strength and Conditioning Coach, Sports Coach, or Professor, as appropriate based on position awarded. Graduate student assistants work a maximum of 20 hours/week. Award: 50% tuition scholarship (15 to 18 credits depending on thesis or non-thesis plan) plus stipend for working 20 hours/week Fall and Spring semesters ($12,800) of your 1st year of study totaling $27,560 - $30,512 applied to the 1st year of study. Based on performance, students working in wellness or athletics are eligible to be hired by Athletics to continue to work for Athletes as student employees during their second year. Teaching Assistantships are a 1-year position, but students can find campus employment in other offices/programs for their second year. The MS can be completed in 16 months (non-thesis) or two-years (thesis).
