The University of Olivet is looking for an individual who has a passion for Esports and an interest in being a part of the development and growth of a collegiate Esports team. The University of Olivet has partnered with the Block House, which is the home of The University of Olivet Esports team. The Block House offers a state-of-the-art competitive arena for the team to practice and compete in. This facility is adjacent to current athletics facilities and provides a high-quality training space for the Esports team. This position is responsible for promoting and establishing a good partnership with Block House and working in collaboration with the team at Block House to develop community relationships and help grow the sport in the south central Michigan area.
UO’s professional Esports arena is not just another classroom converted into an Esports arena. Through the innovative partnership with Block House, UO’s Esports team will compete at a state-of-the-art location, front and center, where spectators can enjoy the competitive Esports environment with a front-row seat, putting them in the action while they cheer on their favorite gamers.
Coaching at The University of Olivet will provide an opportunity for the Esports coaching staff to work with Block House, promoting Esports in the community through middle and high school leagues, and community Esports education, allowing those new to the sport to see what it is all about. Esports is a way to bring the community together in a diverse environment allowing everyone to participate either competitively or socially.
The University of Olivet is looking for a director of Esports who not only wants to "coach the team" but also work with our partners at Block House to grow the sport. An innovative coach will work alongside our athletic department and Block House creating a premier Esports program in Michigan and around the region.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate must possess:
Bachelor’s degree
Adequate knowledge about the fundamentals and techniques of Esports obtained through previous experience coaching at the high school and/or college level.
At least one year competitive Esports experience involving multiplayer online video games with team-based elements and expert knowledge of League of Legends, Overwatch, Hearthstone, or similar games.
Along with the educational and sport experience, serious consideration will be given to the candidate whose characteristics coincide with the following principals: maintains and promotes the academic pursuits of The University of Olivet student-athletes; complies with and reinforces the Comet Athletic Program’s rules and mission; acts professionally and communicates appropriately with University students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni and spectators; and is willing to develop professionally.
Compensation: This is a full-time, 12-month, exempt position with a competitive wage and comprehensive benefits package; including generous paid holiday and leave time. Tuition programs available.

Responsibilities:
Direct the operations of The University of Olivet Esports program within the standards of The University of Olivet and applicable governing bodies
Educate/coach student-athletes in the sport of Esports
Ability to envision and drive growth for the universities Esports program
Recruit prospective student-athletes according to the enrollment goals and admissions standards of The University of Olivet
Schedule and coordinate competition schedules, team travel accommodations, team tryouts, practices, meetings, individual workouts and conditioning sessions.
Coordinate the issuance, care, inventory and collection of equipment, uniforms and supplies for the Esports program. Submit appropriate equipment inventory forms to the Athletic Director within the requested times.
Manage sport’s budget and coordinate team fund raising activities.
Coordinate facility usage for the Esports program.
Submit complete team roster to the Athletic Director on a regular basis.
Ensure the proper completion of physical examinations and all forms relating to the examinations and emergency medical authorization before a student participates.
Manage duties and responsibilities of assistant coaches with the approval of the Athletic Director, as needed.
Coordinate and lead at least one team community service project during each academic year.
Supervise student-athletes at all times including practices, meetings, workouts, travel and other team functions.
Attend all athletic department meetings and appropriate university functions (pep rallies, homecoming, Hall of Fame inductions, etc.).
Exhibit appropriate conduct with students, coaches, administration, staff, alumni, spectators, officials and opponents at all times.
Collect and submit appropriate student-athlete eligibility forms.
Provide leadership that promotes positive attitudes and good sportsmanship.
Notify all members of the team of all Comet Athletic Program’s policies, procedures and training rules as they pertain to the team.
Maintain current certifications in CPR and First Aid to be held on file in the Office of Athletics.
Submit driving record verification for use of institutional vehicles.
Work within the missions and philosophies of the Comet Athletic Program and The University of Olivet.
Conduct yourself and promote attitudes and behaviors among student-athletes that coincide with the policies outlined in the Comet Athletic Handbook.
Make decisions that positively affect the Comet Athletic Program.
Maintain a proper perspective regarding the priorities of academics and athletics at The University of Olivet.
