Duties and Responsibilities:
• Creates, develops a calendar and plans a holistic development program for student-athletes, including but not limited to personal development, professional development, career development, financial literacy, sexual violence prevention, drug and alcohol education, networking, community service, leadership and mentorship programs.
• Manages the holistic development program to enhance student-athlete experience and enable student-athletes to grow in various areas during their time at the University of Hawai‘i at M?noa.
• Collaborates with campus constituencies and athletics department areas to maximize resources, offerings, education and opportunities for engagements for student-athletes.
• Establishes department-wide, group and individual sessions, to work with teams and individuals in assessing interests and needs. Develops programming that addresses the development and growth of all student-athletes and offers opportunities within the State of Hawai‘i as well as nationally.
• Works with ClimbHI, Athlete Network, and others to develop and implement professional and career development programming for student-athletes based on team, class level and individual interests, to assist with post-graduate opportunities and navigating the transition from college to post-graduate life.
• Schedules guest speakers for student-athletes applicable to the holistic development program.
• Works with the University’s Career Center and above platforms to collaborate with career programming such as professional interest and exploration of fields, resume building workshops, cover letter writing, interview preparation, interviewing skills, and internships.
• Oversees the alumni database within the Athlete Network. Involved with student-athlete alumni and the Letterwinners Club, engaging alumni and building relationships to incorporate involvement in programming. Actively communicates with alumni at events and through various communication platforms.
• Coordinates and holds an annual in-person career fair with participation from local and national companies to maximize opportunities to all student-athletes.
• Works with coaches and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), plans community service opportunities for student-athletes, teams and SAAC. Develops relationships within campus and the community to create new community engagement opportunities. Works with the Compliance staff to ensure all service opportunities are compliant with NCAA regulations. Distributes information and communicates activities in advance to solicit greater involvement. Tracks and maintains community service database of hours, activities, student-athlete and team involvement. Maintains department wide database.
• Serves as an advisor to SAAC in conjunction with the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services.
• Provides leadership to SAAC, organizes, communicates and attends monthly SAAC meetings as well as meetings with the SAAC executive board and SAAC committees. Helps to engage SAAC with regard to SAAC’s mission, leading discussions, encouraging feedback and gathering their input and recommendations. Assists SAAC with SAAC-driven events, community service opportunities and projects. Expands SAAC-driven events into larger departmental events. Communicates events through multiple platforms.
• Creates and implements a leadership development program for selected student-athletes.
• Manages and supports student-athlete leadership groups and affinity programs.
• Develops and manages several mentorship programs for student-athletes, recruiting mentors and mentees, providing training, making matches and monitoring program, including support for student-athletes from underrepresented populations. Gauges interests and seeks mentors in additional areas of interest/need. Includes separate career development mentoring program utilizing professional and business leaders in the community and a separate peer mentorship program utilizing junior, senior and graduate student SAs.
• Creates and implements a Letterwinner’s gift program.
• Plans and coordinates student-athlete events including but not limited to H Awards, Welcome Back BBQ, National Girls and Women in Sports Day and other recognition-awards events, in conjunction with the Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services. Work may entail working nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
• Coordinates and manages student-athlete nominations for NCAA and conference awards in conjunction with the Associate Director for Student-Athlete Services.
• Administers the parking program for student-athletes.
• Coordinates and leads tours of athletics facilities to groups who request tours, ensuring that NCAA rules are followed.
• Coordinates outside requests for student-athlete, coach and staff involvement in high school, middle school and elementary school career fairs and educational events.
• Supervises graduate student assistant for student-athlete services and student volunteers and interns.
• Promotes and maintains an environment where the physical, mental, social and academic well-being of all student-athletes are a priority.
• Maintains collaborative working relationships with administrators and coaches in the department, other college offices, and appropriate relationships with individuals interested in the Athletics Department.
• Performs the duties of a Campus Security Authority as defined by University policy and federal law with regards to the Clery Act.
• Maintains confidentiality to include but not limited to information, files and records that the incumbent may obtain or possess, in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, professional ethical standards, federal and state laws and University of Hawaii policies.
• Complies with the laws, policies, rules, and regulations governing the University of Hawaii and its employees, and the rules of the NCAA and affiliated conferences as now constituted or as may be amended in the future. Immediately advises the Director of Athletics or designee if you have reasonable cause to believe violations, whether by employees, students, or others have occurred or will occur.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Possession of a baccalaureate degree in business, arts and sciences, education, communications, counseling, psychology, sociology, athletic administration or related field and three (3) year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for student development, student services, coaching, leadership, or academics in higher education; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of student development, student-athlete development or athletics as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations and theories and systems associated with student development, student-athlete development or athletics.
Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing and spreadsheet software.
If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
General knowledge of the principles, practices and trends of Student-Athlete Development.
Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of student success strategies, career development services and assessment programming.
Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, educate and interact with staff, coaches, administrators, and student-athletes.
Must be able to work nights, weekends and holidays and a flexible schedule depending on programmatic needs.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Possession of good interpersonal skills, professional tact, and the ability to interpret complex concepts and effectively communicate them to educate others.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with the ability to develop and facilitate presentations.
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.

Desirable Qualifications:
Experience working with student-athlete development initiatives.
Experience working in a college or university environment, preferably in athletics or student affairs.
