The Head Golf Professional and Assistant General Manager of the Stanford University Golf Course (a) directs daily activities of the entire Golf Course and Learning Center operation in accordance with the philosophy, policies, and procedures of Stanford University and DAPER, (b) manages the Golf Shop and Learning Center to ensure the highest level of service to members, constituents, and guests.
Responsibilities:
Managing and directing full-time and contingent staff in the day-to-day operations of the Golf Course, Learning Center, and Golf Shop. This includes hiring, training, and retaining assistant golf professionals and other golf operations team members, as well as conducting performance reviews, career coaching, and creating personal development programs.
Planning for and scheduling staffing resources including oversight of assistant professionals and contingent staff scheduling to ensure work completion within hours of operation.
Oversight of employee compliance with uniform policies and procedures, including ensuring that uniforms and name tags are worn and kept in proper condition.
Designing and implementing the service philosophy of SGC, ensuring compliance with university administrative policies.
Oversight of merchandise purchases and sales for the Golf Shop, evaluating purchasing and inventory plans for operational and financial effectiveness.
Conducting inventory turnover and cost of sales analyses to determine control guidelines and provide recommendations for acceptable inventory levels.
Collaborating with Membership Director to develop new programming methodology for membership and public access at the learning center, maximizing revenue and servicing all constituent groups.
Analyzing patron and guest needs to help develop and recommend new internal policies, guidelines, and procedures related to golf course operations, such as “pace of play standard,” and standardized procedures for tournaments.
Assisting in the preparation of the annual budget for the Golf Shop, Learning Center, and general Golf Course Operations, in collaboration with DAPER Budget Office.
Analyzing membership numbers, merchandise sales, and inventory to evaluate operational and financial effectiveness, and making recommendations to leadership regarding staffing changes and purchasing decisions.
In collaboration with the General Manager, developing the capital budget and annual operating budget for the entire golf operation.
Managing the day-to-day finances for merchandise sales, golf cart fleet management, and food and beverage vendor relationship, which includes monitoring general expenses, analyzing, forecasting, and reporting on the annual budget.
Representing the SGC with the press, PGA Tour players, tournament committees, and representatives from merchandise manufacturers.
Additional Duties:
Establish equipment and supply requirements for the department and maintain accountability for cost, utilization, and performance of employees and equipment.
Oversee recruitment of new golf members and member programming along with membership director.
Establish and administer internal and external tournament programs. Oversee the development of promotional materials to communicate the programs to patrons and guests.
Assume responsibility as the manager/supervisor in the Golf Shop during the peak periods ensuring service standards are maintained.
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience in administrative and financial management, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Excellent oral and written communication skills and effective interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated knowledge of high-level competitive golf, instruction, and golf course agronomy.
Demonstrated financial management knowledge and experience in the golf business.

Clear understanding of golf courses, driving range, and hospitality operations.

Preferred Qualifications
PGA of America A-1 classification.
Three years of golf operations management experience as head professional or first assistant professional, or a combination of education and relevant experience.

The expected pay range for this position is $123,690 to $150,000 per annum.
