PRIMARY FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIP TO TOTAL ORGANIZATION Responsible for all aspects of leading cheerleading and pom programs to include but not limited to management of program budget, selecting of team members, community appearances, games, and events. Instructs spirit squad members in developing of game day routines. Schedules and conducts practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1)Management of Spirit Squad Program Creates and teaches spirit squad routines, including choreography and accompanying music in conjunction with assistant coach. Demonstrates knowledge and ability to implement effective coaching theory, strategies, and techniques appropriate for college athletes. Communicates effectively with team members, recruits, university organization, coaching staff, and administration. Emphasizes academic success and service to all team members. Advises and instruct student-athletes on skill development to compete at the NCAA level. Develops and executes recruitment and retention of quality squad members, including but not limited to: off-campus evaluation and organization of annual on-campus tryouts. Works effectively with student athletes of varying abilities, socio-economic, and cultural backgrounds to instill commitment, discipline, and teamwork. 2)Budget Manages the team budget for a both squads. Responsible for inventory, selection, purchase, and care of equipment. Oversees and manages available scholarship funds to recruit a roster. Responsible for team fund raising activities. 3) Community Relations Build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, faculty, alumni, staff, media, boosters, and the campus community. Commit to all NCAA, Summit League, and Oral Roberts University Athletics Department policies and procedures. 4)Campus Liaison Maintains a good working relationship with all athletic coaches and staff regarding facility use and condition. Manages and organizes pep rallies, mascots, and any other spirit related activities. Coordinates with the Director of Marketing/Fan Experience, the band, and other school groups for game-day activities. Coordinates on-campus activation methods to promote upcoming games and increase exposure of ORU Athletics. 5)Miscellaneous Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of and adheres to applicable NCAA, Conference, University, and departmental rules and regulations. Upon notification of any NCAA violation, reports the violation to the Senior Associate Athletic Director/Compliance or Director of Athletics and follow applicable procedures for reporting and investigating a violation with the NCAA. Perform other duties and responsibilities as required.

One to three years of coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.  Must demonstrate significant knowledge of cheer and dance, proven success in coaching cheer and dance at the collegiate, club, or high school level, the ability to recruit, develop and motivate NCAA student-athletes.  Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.  Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.  Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.  Ability to make independent decisions and judgments on administrative and procedural issues.  Ability to build relationships with campus personnel and students.  Must be able to lift more than 50-lb. objects; frequent bending, stooping, and walking.  Ability to work various hours, including nights and weekends throughout the year for practice, games and recruiting.  Must adhere to the Code of Honor for Oral Roberts University.
