The Pfau Course is located on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. Designed by highly-acclaimed architect Steve Smyers and two-time major winner and Hoosier native Fuzzy Zoeller, the course offers a unique, world-class layout that is set in the natural beauty of southern Indiana. Featuring a state-of-the-art comprehensive short game practice area and two driving range areas, The Pfau Course offers the finest practice facilities in the area for golfers to develop their game.
Department Specific Responsibilities
Provides professional leadership, supervision and administration for all functions related to operations of the Pfau Golf Course. This includes the Pfau Course, Driving Range, and Pro Shop. Administrative responsibilities include marketing, finance, and overall management of the operation. Oversees and directs the financial management functions, performing budgetary planning and oversight activities to direct and manage course accounts—projections, analysis of financial reports and records, etc.
Provides highest level of operational leadership and oversight to the Pfau Golf Course operations. This includes supervision of full-time staff, specifically the golf course superintendent and head golf professional/business development manager. Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing program timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase program initiatives. Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal. Manages allocation of resources, including negotiating and coordinating initiatives that involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale programs with wide audiences in support of athletic department initiatives. Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment. Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry golf course standards, subject matter experts, best practices, and strategic marketing; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs. Works collaboratively with IU Athletics COO, CFO, and other department administrators in strategy development and execution. May also work with field experts in recommending standards, best practices, and related policies/procedures. Prepares management reports and summaries for senior administration, executive, steering and advisory committees; acts as advisor to executive committees; serves on various university committees, communities of practice, and task forces related to program development, educational initiatives and institutional priorities.
