Virginia Military Institute is accepting on-line applications for an Assistant Director of Academic Services. Reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services and Compliance, this position works directly with the Registrar’s Office, the faculty and other Institute offices. Position will be engaged in broad responsibilities within the department.
Duties and Responsibilities •Assist the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services and Compliance in managing all academic service programming for cadet-athletes.
•Along with the Assistant Athletics Director for Academic Services and Compliance serve as departmental liaison with the faculty and academic offices at the Institute.
•Maintain full commitment to compliance with NCAA, Southern Conference and Virginia Military Institute rules and regulations.
•Serve as academic advisor to assigned intercollegiate teams.
•Support the training and supervision of part-time tutorial and support staff.
•Work with freshman transitional program and at-risk cadet athletes with specific attention to monitoring academic progress, development of learning skills, development of organizational abilities and educational strategies.
•Assist in preparing unit assessments and reports.
•Serve as liaison to human resources in the hiring and payroll processes of part- time staff.
•Support continuing eligibility certification process and Academic Progress Rate (APR) data collection and reporting.
•Contribute to departmental administrative efforts in sport/event management and others areas as needed.
•Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
•Bachelor’s degree, or higher.
•1-3 years of experience working in NCAA student-athlete academic support (graduate assistant or intern experience acceptable).
•Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations specific to academic and eligibility requirements.
