The Graduate Assistant for Athletic Academics will assist in the daily operations for the Director of Academics office. This position supports the academic success, eligibility, and personal development of student-athletes while helping to ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and NCAA academic policies. The Graduate Assistant will serve as a resource for student-athletes, coaches, and staff, promoting a culture of academic excellence within the athletic department
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Athletic Academics in monitoring student-athlete academic progress and eligibility in accordance with HCU, Southland Conference, OVC Conference, and NCAA standards.
Coordinate and supervise study hall and tutoring programs for student-athletes.
Track academic performance data, prepare progress reports, and maintain accurate academic records.
Communicate regularly with coaches regarding student-athlete academic progress, class attendance, and performance concerns.
Support student-athletes during course registration and assist with academic advising coordination.
Assist in planning and implementing academic workshops, life skills programming, and student development initiatives.
Contribute to orientation programs for incoming student-athletes to promote a smooth academic and social transition.
Participate in departmental meetings and support campus-wide academic initiatives that connect Athletics with the broader HCU community.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletic Academics.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree required; must be admissible and enroll in an HCU graduate program as a full-time student.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and staff.
Experience in academic support, athletics, education, or a related field preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and database systems.
Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and compliance with FERPA and NCAA regulations.
