Wilson College is a private liberal arts college located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1869 as a college for women by two Presbyterian ministers and remains affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Sarah Wilson, for whom the college is named, provided the initial gift for establishing the college. She was the first living woman in the United States to endow a college for women. Today, Wilson admits women and men of all ages to its associate's, bachelor's, post-baccalaureate, and graduate programs.
Reporting to the vice president for student development, the director of athletics provides visionary and strategic leadership for the comprehensive NCAA Division III athletics program and the varsity Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) teams (Hunt Seat and Western). This position ensures program effectiveness, improvement, accountability, and compliance, while supporting the overall mission and goals of Wilson College, as well as conference and national associations. The director promotes a culture of academic and athletic excellence, integrity, gender equity, diversity, and inclusivity, fostering a positive and holistic experience for all student-athletes.
The director is responsible for a department comprising 13 varsity sports, over 50 full-time and part-time professional coaches and staff, over 225 student-athletes, and a comprehensive overall budget of approximately $1.6 million.
Qualifications A bachelor's degree and significant, five years of progressive leadership experience in collegiate athletics administration, including staff supervision, budget and facilities management, and sport program oversight, are required; a master's degree is preferred. The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of intercollegiate athletics administration, student-athlete development, facilities management and resource allocation, NCAA compliance within a Division III environment, and the role of fundraising in supporting both strategic and operational objectives.
