Fairmont State University is seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to serve as the Assistant Athletic Director of External Affairs and Resource Development. This position plays a vital role in advancing the mission of Falcon Athletics through external engagement, fundraising, sponsorship development, alumni relations, and community outreach. The Assistant Athletic Director will work closely with the Director of Athletics to cultivate strategic partnerships, grow revenue, and enhance the visibility and support of the athletic program.
Primary responsibilities include:
External Relations – Assist the Director of Athletics with external relations. Assist on game days with donor relations and customer service needs. Must be available to work games, nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
Resource Development – Serve as secondary liaison to the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. and Office of Alumni Relations. Lead fund raising efforts for $1,000 Club and Annual Day of Giving. Assist with preparation of an annual work plan outlining strategic initiatives, correlating gift table, and prospect pipeline to successfully reach annual donor and dollar goals. Assist with establishing annual departmental goals based on donor and prospect history, department needs, and revenue opportunities.
Special Events – Lead the organization and operation of the following external events to include the following: Hall of Fame Induction; Annual Athletic Department Fundraisers; and Student-Athlete Awards Celebration (Freddie’s). Also work closely with the head coaches and athletic administration to support Game Day activities, especially as they relate to external relations and resource development.
Additional duties to include: Work with the administration to develop Initial key performance indicators (KPI) based upon current needs, historical information, and overall funding priorities of the Athletic Department as well as the mission of Fairmont State University. Meet weekly with the President of the Fairmont State Foundation, Inc. to discuss current concepts, strategies, and other events related to the Athletics Department. At least monthly, the Assistant Director will meet with the leadership at the FSU Foundation to review the established KPIs and strategies. In addition, the Assistant Director will meet with the Athletics Director to review objectives, opportunities, and challenges. Strategies will then be developed as a result of these reviews.
Experience/knowledge of the intercollegiate athletic environment and the need for external resources. Experience with diverse populations.
Two years' experience in a similar role that presented like challenges and pressures.
Familiarity with regional collegiate institutions and a sense of the financial challenges faced.
