The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), one of the premier NCAA Division II conferences, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Associate Commissioner for Championships and Compliance. This position plays a central role in supporting the competitive and academic integrity of the conference and its student-athletes. The Associate Commissioner reports directly to the Commissioner and works collaboratively with institutional leadership across the conference.
The Associate Commissioner assists the Commissioner in developing and administering a comprehensive conference compliance program that ensures consistent interpretation and enforcement of NCAA and GLIAC rules. This includes providing rule interpretations, assisting member institutions with the certification of coaches and administrators, conducting campus compliance reviews, and coordinating educational seminars. The position manages the process for hardship waivers, secondary violations, and the maintenance of eligibility lists, while also preparing and distributing rules updates through newsletters and other communication channels. The Associate Commissioner serves as the conference liaison to NCAA legislative services staff and works closely with the GLIAC Eligibility Committee and Commissioner on potential violations and allegations.
The position also coordinates communication and programming for the GLIAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and supports the implementation of the Conference Strategic Plan, aligning with NCAA Division II initiatives and guiding documents. The Associate Commissioner plays a key role in championship administration by assisting in the identification and evaluation of host venues, managing bid processes, coordinating logistical needs, and serving as on-site event manager for assigned GLIAC Championships. Additional responsibilities include serving as a liaison for multiple sport championships and conference standing committees, organizing meetings for the Management Council and other groups, working with coaching associations for assigned sports, and managing logistical arrangements related to championships and conference events such as hotel and meeting contracts.
The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is a virtual office, with an expectation to live in the footprint of the league.
