The Associate Athletics Director for External Operations is responsible for the overall leadership and supervision of external operations, with special emphasis placed on the integration of athletics communication, marketing and promotions, ticketing, and overall brand development. As a member of the Department’s Executive Staff, this position is critical to streamlined communications and operations as it relates to marketing and promotions, television, media, ticketing, event management, community outreach and corporate sponsorship for athletics and recreation.
Responsibilities and Results:
Establish and oversee the development of an integrated marketing program for St. Cloud State Athletics and Campus Recreation. *Work with external operations team to develop, organize, and implement sport-specific marketing plans. *Explore cross-marketing opportunities within external operations for outreach related to campus recreation. *Coordinate all areas of game day operations to ensure quality of events. *Assist with in-game planning and promotions. *Work closely with sport facilities team on scheduling, development and execution of athletics events.
Develop and review marketing collateral and public relations activities which generate ticket sales, support positive brand impressions for St. Cloud State and its intercollegiate athletics program. *Work collaboratively with ticketing and campus and community organizations to increase event attendance and ticketing revenue through promotions. *Review collateral materials for accuracy, brand management, and consistent messaging. *Coordinate outreach efforts with coaches and partners to ensure quality of events.
Oversee SCSU athletics’ digital platforms, video/social media outreach, marketing, and collaboration with Learfield IMG College corporate sponsorships. Ensure consistent communication with University partners through Learfield ING College. *Evaluate inventory and sales opportunities annually with Learfield IMG College. *Coordinate athletic media advertising and collateral material production as part of sponsorship fulfillment.
Coordinate with various campus and community groups to maximize student and fan engagement and create affinity for our brand and sport teams. *Work with Athletics Communications to maximized messaging opportunities and strategic public relations. *Partner with Athletics Communications to ensure timely delivery of marketing and promotions information through print, electronic and new media.
Provide professional development, strategic planning, and supervision to assigned staff, including oversight of select sport programs/head coaches. *Participate in departmental and University planning work as appropriate. *Oversee implementation of strategic plan as it relates to external affairs. *Work with direct reports on personal professional development plans. *Ensure appropriate and timely communication with coaching staff as it relates to marketing, media and sponsorship initiatives. *Serve as sport program liaison to baseball and men’s soccer, including regular planning, budgeting, and support meetings *Serve as advisor to Sideline Cheer and St. Cloud State Dane, and coordinate involvement of Husky Sports Band.
Perform other duties as necessary to build support for and add value to the objectives and goals of the University, Department of Athletics, and Athletics Communications unit.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree with five years of demonstrated progressive experience in intercollegiate athletics in areas such as coaching, marketing, media, event management, including understanding of integrated approach to brand management.
- Strong background in external relations, including the ability to develop creative marketing plans, integrate communication and promotions with University and Department initiatives, and enhance the SCSU Athletics experience for student-athletes, fans, and alumni.
- Ability to communicate plans in a timely fashion and ensure implementation in collaboration with coaches, ticketing, creative services, media relations, development staff, and campus partners to enhance athletics exposure and game experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s Degree
- Knowledge of: NCAA, Conference (NSIC, WCHA, NCHC), institutional, federal, and state rules and regulations; standard accounting practices and procedures; procedures to monitor and enforce rules and regulations; and basic principles and practices of supervisory techniques.
