Western Kentucky University, Department of Athletics, is seeking applications for Track and Field Graduate Assistant beginning 1 August 2022. This position reports to the Director of Track and Field / Cross Country. Applicants must have a commitment to and responsibility for adhering to all rules and regulations of WKU, Conference USA and the NCAA. Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are customary for this position, but are not to be construed as all-inclusive. Duties may be added, deleted and assigned based on management discretion and institutional needs.
Coach practice sessions and workouts, Specific to Pole Vault
Plan and supervise training plans for student-athletes under the supervision of staff.
Assist with coaching responsibilities during athletics events
Attend coaches' preparatory meetings and implement strategies resulting from those meetings
Develop a comprehensive and functional knowledge of the sport, and maintain thorough and continual familiarity with all applicable University, Conference USA, and NCAA rules and regulations
Assist with home meet operations.
Assist with team travel planning and meals.
Assist with team equipment inventory, ordering and issue.
Assist in the implementation of the academic program, including the monitoring of individual student-athlete's progress to ensure academic eligibility, the enforcement of study and tutorial programs, and referral to appropriate University academic resources
Work with student-athletes and monitor adherence to rules and regulations concerning conduct, appearance, and behavior
Assist other tasks as assigned by the Head Coach
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:
Excellent written and verbal skills
Exemplary interpersonal, time management and organizational skills
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive situations with tact and diplomacy
Keen attention to detail
Experience in coaching or competition in horizontal jumps / Multis
Must have valid driver’s license
Must be able to use Microsoft office
Ability to lift and move athletics equipment up to 50 pounds.
$1,000 stipend, paid monthly. Scholarship will cover full tuition expenses for two classes per semester and textbooks. The candidate must have earned a bachelor’s degree and be admitted as a full-time student in any graduate program at Western Kentucky University, effective fall 2022.
