The Head Football Equipment Manager reports to the Assistant Athletic Director for Equipment Services and is responsible for all aspects of apparel and equipment needs for football and assigned support units. This position will work and collaborate with seven other equipment staff members on objectives and goals specific to Equipment Services, and will play a vital role in the health, safety, and well-being of our student athletes.

This position, alongside an Associate Director of Equipment Services has daily interaction with the football program. This position will directly cover all football apparel and equipment, the football locker room, Northwestern Recreation, Football letter awards, football related new employees, football student managers, and NUDAR deliveries. This position will assist with meeting the needs of the Northwestern Gridiron Network and Club 51, fundraising groups for the football program. Duties and responsibilities subject to change based on department needs.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Equipment Management

1. Adhere to and execute the Department’s apparel and equipment contract (Currently Under Armour) and other apparel and equipment vendors.
2. Independently responsible for ordering apparel and equipment from season-to-season and as needed.
3. Maintain inventory records for the athletic department using digital inventory software
4. Pack athletic teams for travel to away contests, and coordinate transportation of apparel and equipment for off-site competitions.
5. Coordinate laundry service and other equipment related needs for away competitions, as needed.
6. Issue, launder and disseminate game, practice, and workout apparel and uniforms.
7. Fit, clean and repair equipment in accordance with NOCSAE and AEMA standards, maintaining records of maintenance and repair.
8. Ensure proper logo on all apparel and uniforms in accordance with NUDAR, B1G Conference and the NCAA.

1. Maintain a clean and organized equipment room and ensure proper storage of athletic equipment used in and around the facility.
2. Collaborate with Associate Director of Football Equipment to ensure all needs of the Northwestern Football are met.
3. Work with business office to ensure proper and timely payment of invoices.
4. Assist with the NUDAR letter winner program which includes ordering, inventorying, and disseminating of awards.
5. Assist Northwestern Recreation with yearly apparel orders and decoration as needed.
6. Hire, supervise and educate interns and student managers on policies and procedures relative to issuing and maintaining apparel and equipment.
7. Report and log intern and student manager hours according to Northwestern Temp policy.

1. Foster, build and maintain relationships with vendors and sporting goods companies.
2. Provide world-class experience and high-level of service to all student athletes.
3. Work with coaches and director of operations of assigned sports to ensure all equipment needs are met.

1. Responsible for adhering to all Department and University policies and procedures, as well as the rules, regulations, bylaws and interpretations of the Big Ten Conference, CSC and the NCAA.
2. Responsible for adhering to all Department and University continuing education initiatives and required certifications and trainings.
3. Collaborate with other areas of NUDAR on certain projects as they pertain to Equipment Operations
4. Assist in the receipt and distribution of package deliveries from FedEx, UPS, etc.
5. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree.
2. Minimum 2 years’ experience working full-time in a college athletic equipment room.
3. Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certification preferred or certifiable within one year of hire.
4. Knowledge and prior experience with industrial washing and drying machines as well as proper techniques to remove stains from garments, apparel and uniforms.
5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs.
6. Prior knowledge of Inventory Tracking program.
7. Ability to lift 50 lbs.
8. General/basic knowledge on how to sew and repair garments.
9. General/basic knowledge on the use of a heat press.
10. Possess ability to communicate effectively one-to-one, in small groups and in public speaking contexts; writes precise, well-organized emails, letters and proposals while using appropriate vocabulary and grammar.
11. Effectively performs duties and responsibilities; displays attention to detail; supports organizational policies; anticipates demands/pressures of assignments and adjusts accordingly.
12. Ability to work independently; complete goals, tasks, and projects on time.
13. Ability to think critically to find creative solutions to whatever challenge may be presented.
14. Valid driver’s license
15. A thorough working knowledge of issuing, fitting, cleaning, and maintaining athletic equipment as put forward by the AEMA preferred.
16. Ability to work cooperatively with others and effectively interact and establish engaging relationships with a wide variety of constituents.
17. Knowledge of rules and regulations of the NCAA, CSC, Big Ten Conference and Northwestern University preferred
