The NCAA is requesting applications from interested individuals to serve as the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball National Coordinator of Officials. The position will help promote communication between officials, coaches and the NCAA, and help provide consistency in the interpretation of NCAA Men’s Basketball officiating mechanics. Additionally, the national coordinator will assist the NCAA Divisions II Men’s Basketball Committee in the identification, training, selection and evaluation of officials for the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball championships. This position is a one-year term, renewable each year. The official term will begin Sept. 1, 2026. A stipend is paid during the official term.
Reports to: NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball National Coordinator of Officials, NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee and NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball championship staff liaison(s).

Expectations:
a. Positively represent the interests of the NCAA and its Men’s Basketball officiating program by fostering a culture of excellence and cooperation among all Men’s Basketball constituencies.
b. Assist the Division II Men’s Basketball championships staff liaisons in continuing to improve the national officiating program, national educational platforms and the regional advisors program.
c. Work regularly with Division II conference coordinators of officials to assure the most consistent and effective teaching and communication is being utilized in educating and developing officials.
d. Work collaboratively with the NCAA Men’s Basketball Secretary-Rules Editor (SRE) to ensure good communication as rules, interpretations and mechanics of the game are reviewed.
Duties, Requirements and Responsibilities:
Regular Season:
a. Work with NCAA staff and the National Coordinator of officials on the basketball officiating program (recruitment, training, education, retention).
b. Work regularly with Division II conference coordinators of officials to ensure the most consistent and effective teaching and communication methods are utilized in developing a qualified pool of officials. In addition, assist in the adoption of the officials evaluation system by helping modernize processes with technology, while promoting and building strong buy-in from coordinators and observers to ensure a smooth and consistent process.
c. Develop annual and long-term officiating improvement plans in line with the national messaging and direction for the sport.
d. Attend NCAA officials’ regional clinic, conference coordinators of officials meeting and other training meetings (as requested).
e. Work with NCAA staff and the Division I National Coordinator of Officials to annually update officiating policies and procedures.
f. Evaluate performance of officials during the regular season via television, streaming and/or recordings.
g. Conduct in-person evaluations and schedule travel during the regular season to successfully engage in dialogue with the members of the basketball community. h. Provide annual report to Division II Men’s Basketball Committee, NCAA staff and the Division I National Coordinator.
i. Attendance at Division II Men’s Basketball Committee annual meeting (if requested).
j. Participate in monthly calls with the Division I and Division III National Coordinator of Officials to report on Division II-specific matters, discuss new developments and observations, and identify opportunities for growth and improvement.
k. Conduct monthly conference coordinator of officials calls.
l. Listen, communicate and build rapport with Division II constituents (coordinators of officials, coaches and administrators).
m. Be a resource for conference coordinators of officials and commissioners.
n. Maintain a regional and national database of officials (i.e. RefQuest+).
Championship:
a. Recommend the selection, assignment and advancement of game officials during the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Championship to the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee for approval, as well as other championship officiating matters.
b.Assign and advance officials for all rounds of the championship with the assistance from on-site evaluators.
c. Notify officials of their assignments and conduct videoconferences with officials selected to work the NCAA championship in conjunction with the Division II Men’s Basketball staff and/or committee(s).
d. Communicate travel, game and meeting times, and lodging arrangements (as needed) with each official.
e. Monitor that officials selected to work post season are in compliance with the criteria set forth for selection (i.e. working minimum number of NCAA contests, years of experience, test score, conference recommendation).
f. Assign evaluators to each regional round tournament site to evaluate officials.
g. Travel to the championship final site to evaluate the officials for quarterfinals, semifinals and final games.
h. Other duties as assigned by NCAA staff and/or the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Committee.
NOTE: This position cannot be an active NCAA Division I, II or III basketball official or coach; or Division II conference coordinator of officials.
Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree.
Strong technology skills paired with clear written and verbal communication.
Ability to relate effectively with officials and coaches on a national level.
Extensive knowledge of NCAA Men’s Basketball rules and their relationship to officiating mechanics and techniques.
Strong administrative and organizational skills.
Ability to use email as a means of correspondence.
Experience in officiating or coaching at the collegiate level; and
Shall not be an active NCAA coach, official, or conference coordinator/assignor.
